About this wine:
Fear not the “brown bag tasting”! We’ve said it before, and this wine makes us want to say it again. The relatively newer Camp 4 vineyard sits at the gateway to the Happy Canyon area and is dominated by various clones of Syrah. Warm, but not too warm, it may have one of the best little microclimates anywhere in the valley and has really been a discovery in terms of the quality of fruit. From the first pour into the glass, it’s clear this is going to be a big wine. Rich, complex aromas of dark berries, mint, mocha, and spice are touched by a hint of that Star Lane sweetness, and lead to a truly huge finish. The big question is, do you lock the door with your favorite person and drink this with a giant rack of grilled lamb chops, or do you bring it to that brown bag tasting so you can see it blow away your buddy’s $60 media darling wine?
